Job Title: Production Planner
Location: Kington, Herefordshire
Hours: 40hrs pw, Monday to Friday, permanent
Pay: £28k – £34k
An opportunity has arisen for a full-time Production Planner to start immediately. The role will be based in the company’s panel build unit at head office in Kington, working for a well-known and well-respected electrical installation company employing around 42 staff. The company manufactures electrical control systems for the process industry and specialises in the installation of LV and ELV electrical systems within the construction industry, mainly for the water and wastewater sector. Reporting to the Panel Production Manager, the successful person will have a responsible attitude and ability to organise production according to demand and quality standards, ensure goods are produced on time for distribution in a profitable manner, and effectively manage several panel operatives to achieve maximum efficiency.
Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Production planning: identify customer’s required delivery date, plan number of build days back from required delivery date, allocate panel builder days, ensure correct deployment of staff, ensure specialist parts will arrive on time
* Management and development of a team of panel operatives on a daily basis in terms of work instruction, attendance and performance management, taking appropriate action to address issues as and when they arise
* Monitoring and driving performance within the team
* Enter customer’s order into ERP system (computer package), generate a job number and enter the whole job including quotation number in the relevant customer file
* Using the ERP system, order any specialist components required for the job
* Monitor the panel build progress on a daily basis against the planned build schedule and budget, adjust schedule as required – alert Production Manager/management if there are any problems
* Troubleshooting
* Create delivery notes and book carriers for shipments going out
* Conduct weekly check of stock levels against pre-printed schedules and order replacement stock as required
* Scan A4 drawings, notes and other documents relating to the job and save in ERP system
* Scan and email hand drawn schematics to external AutoCAD specialist
* Receive AutoCAD schematics back, check for accuracy against original, convert to PDF and print ready for panel operatives
* Receive all deliveries and check against delivery notes – if correct, sign and date delivery note and pass to accounts team, transfer received goods to correct location
* Ensure documentation and paperwork is accurately and appropriately filed/saved
* Work with the Production Manager and management to ensure effective forward planning
* Ensure equipment is well maintained, manage safe working practices and adherence to H&S compliance
* Identify and communicate issues that affect quality, efficiency and waste
* Build good working relations with external customers, suppliers and stakeholders
* Work in partnership with other areas of the business including H&S and HR
* Front-line telephone and email answering
Required Skills and Abilities
Proven experience in production, and coordinating and optimising production workflow
Proven people management skills to effectively lead, support and motivate production panel operatives
Proven experience of production planning and quality control principles
Proven experience of prioritising operations to ensure maximum performance and minimum delay
Proven experience of determining resources, equipment and raw materials needed to cover production demand
Excellent working knowledge and experience in using MS Office (Outlook/Word/Excel)
Ability to balance and manage own workload
